MUDDOGS RETURN TO ACTION AFTER SUMMER BREAK Country View Bar & Grill Safari on Sunday
Crews contesting the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2018 Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship return to action this Sunday after a long summer break since June. On Sunday (September 16), they will contest the Country View Bar & Grill September Safari, round four of five in this year’s competition.
With dropped scores yet to be taken into account, five-time Champions Leslie Alleyne and Wayne Clarke and winners of the Sol June Safari currently lead the standings in the Simpson Motors/Shell Spirax/Shell Rimula/Maxxis Isuzu D-Max, with 174 points. Champions in 2010, Ryan Corbin and Dustin Edwards (Corbins Catering Services Mahogany Ridge Toyota Hilux) are now second with 164 points, having led after the first two rounds following their victory in the Chefette April Safari.
Things are even tighter in Class B, where Damien Johnson and Justin Lynch (Dre Tuned Toyota Hilux) lead the standings with 178 points, six ahead of Richard Hinkson and Kevin-Jon Manning in the Windforce Tyres Suzuki Samurai, so the winners of both titles are almost certain to remain undecided until the final event in November. Jean-Marc Cozier leads the separate year-end Shelbury Construction Trophy, which recognizes success in the Driver Challenges, despite missing ‘The June’; he has a nine-point lead over Stephen Mayers, but both miss this coming weekend’s events, which may work to the benefit of third-placed Willie Hinds.
Cozier is one of the route-setters for Sunday’s event, along with regular Navigator Andrew Croney; they finished second in the 2017 Chefette MudDogs Championship in their first full season of competition together, then won the opening round this year in March. From the start at 7.00am from the Country View Bar & Grill, St George, crews will follow a circuitous route towards the east coast, via the first of two confirmed Driver Challenges at Vaucluse, St Thomas, at approximately 8.30am. After the Lunch Halt at around 11.30am at Dinah’s Restaurant in Bathsheba, St Joseph, the afternoon route will include a second Driver Challenge at Golden Grove, St Philip, at 3.30pm, with a third possibly to be added just before the finish back at Country View Bar & Grill.
