RALLY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE ON SUNDAY
Switch of venue to Luke Hill
The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) 2016 Driver’s and Class Championships are set for a nail-biter of a finale at the weekend (Sunday, October 2), as all but two of the top 10 contenders chasing the coveted Champion Driver title are entered for the BRC Winter Sprint. The double-header format, with year-end dropped scores to be taken into account, means the outcome will not be known until the final run.
Road works at the originally-planned venue have resulted in a switch to the stage used as the fourth venue for King of the Hill in 2013, which this weekend will be used in both directions between Luke Hill, St Peter and Church Hill, St Lucy. The event will start at 12.30pm, with one practice run and three official timed runs in each direction.
WRC points leader Roger Hill is seeded to start at number one in his Esso/Nassco/Max Meyer/MotorMac Toyota Corolla WRC, one of only two four-wheel-drive cars on the entry; Andrew Mallalieu is seeded at five in his Group N Terra Caribbean Subaru Impreza N10. A thrilling two-wheel-drive and SuperModified 2 battle is in prospect as Dane Skeete (Sol/Flow/Automotive Art/Williams Trading Inc Peugeot 306 Maxi), Roger Mayers (Chefette/Digicel/Sol/DHL/Hankook/Illusion Graphics WR Starlet) and Josh Read (Sprite/Stihl/Gliptone/Hankook/Weetabix/Chutney’s/Urban Kitchen/Cell Hut/Cockspur Toyota Starlet) all aim to end the 2016 season on a high.
Daryl Clarke in his Modified 2 Roberts Manufacturing/Amir’s Chicken/Valvoline/MQI Collision Repair Honda Civic currently leads the Champion Driver title chase. With six of eight rounds run, Clarke has 100 points, one ahead of M1 points leader Neil Corbin (Nassco/Jason Jones/Auto Solutions/Emtage Electric/BG Products & Services/Valvoline Toyota Starlet). Skeete and Edward Corbin (Valvoline/Pro Sales Daihatsu Charmant), respectively the leaders of SM2 and SM1, are tied on 93 points in third place, with Wayne Archer (M1 Archers Hall Design Centre/RW Water Peugeot 206) – he is one of the absentees on Sunday - and Historic 2 leader John Corbin (Valvoline/Pro Sales Toyota Corolla) tied for fifth, each with 87 points.
